2007-08 Arizona Cardinals
Do the Cardinals have the elements this season to be a playoff team? There are various problems stacked against them: a weak offensive line, and lack depth in key positions. On top of that, they have to get used to a new coaching staff. Good looking QB Matt Leinart seems more of a celeb than a player, but comes into the season with heaps of experience and improvement. He has great backup as well in Kurt Warner. As WRs, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are showing a lot of strength. They have also tried to amp up their OL, signing Mike Gandy and Al Johnson. Adrian Wilson is fantastic, and expected to start at other safety. Ticket buyers to Cardinals tickets will definitely see improvement this year. But Arizona as sleeper team remains to be seen.
Previous Seasons
The Arizona Cardinals aren’t exactly the prototypical winning franchise like other NFL teams might be. The Cardinals only have an all-time winning percentage of .419. It seems to have only gotten worse in recent years. Since 1986, the team has finished with a record above the .500 mark only once, have yet to win a divisional title and have only managed one postseason appearance. During the ’98, season the Cards jumped on the hot arm of Jake Plummer who led them to a 9-7 record and their first postseason appearance in 16 years. The first round match up pitted them against the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium. The Cardinals went on to handily win the game 20-7 stunning the Cowboys and their hometown fans. In the second round the Cardinals were clearly overmatched by the Minnesota Vikings and lost the contest 21-41.
