About the Arizona Cardinals
Welcome fellow Cardinals fan!
As you know, finding great Cardinals Tickets is probably the hardest part of being a Cardinals supporter, but here you will find information on how to obtain 'hard to get' and 'sold out' tickets.
Previous Seasons
After being eliminated from playoff contention in week 15, the Cardinals have failed to make the playoffs after making it to the Divisional Playoffs last season. WR Steve Breaston saw his time on the field diminish after week 16 and there is rumor in Arizona that he will not be resigned after this season leaving only WR Larry Fitzgerald as a threat in the receiving corps.
After taking his team through a 10-6 record last season only to be eliminated in the eventual Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Playoffs, Coach Whisenhunt has reloaded and looks to get back to and past the Divisional Championships. The team has the 26th overall pick in the upcoming draft and looks to shore up either the cornerback or fullback positions. Most glaring holes have been covered, mostly on defense.
Players lost include Kurt Warner- retired, Bertrand Berry – retired, Antrel Rolle – released, Anquan Bolden – traded to the Ravens and LB Karlos Dansby who signed a 5-year, $43 million contract with the Dolphins. Players so far acquired include TE Dominique Byrd, LB Steve Baggs, PK Jay Feely, LB Joey Porter and S Kerry Rhodes
Coach Whisenhunt has reloaded and is once again ready to take his team to the promised land. With the Cardinals one of the hottest tickets in the league, Coach won’t have to worry about filling the seats with fans.
In the offseason, the Cards replaced Clancy Pendergast with Billy Davis as the Defensive Coordinator. Todd Haley left his position as Offensive Coordinator to become the Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, John McNulty replaced Mike Miller as the Receivers Coach and Miller was promoted to Passing Game Coordinator. Finally, Curtin Modkins replaced Maurice Carthon as the Running Backs Coach and Matt Raich has replaced Billy Davis as the Linebackers Coach. The team also release Edgerrin James and drafted RB Chris “Beanie” Wells out of Ohio State.
The Arizona Cardinals aren’t exactly the prototypical winning franchise like other NFL teams might be. The Cardinals only have an all-time winning percentage of .419. It seems to have only gotten worse in recent years. Since 1986, the team has finished with a record above the .500 mark only once, have yet to win a divisional title and have only managed one postseason appearance. During the ’98, season the Cards jumped on the hot arm of Jake Plummer who led them to a 9-7 record and their first postseason appearance in 16 years. The first round match up pitted them against the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium. The Cardinals went on to handily win the game 20-7 stunning the Cowboys and their hometown fans. In the second round the Cardinals were clearly overmatched by the Minnesota Vikings and lost the contest 21-41.
Last off-season the Cards knew they needed to make some big changes and they did make one huge change. They fired coach Jeff McGinnis and brought in
Dennis Green. Green was one of the central reasons that the Vikings are still a very good team despite not having much of a defense. They didn’t make any big moves as far as personnel goes, a few back-ups were brought in to help out their depth at some positions.
This off-season the team brought in two-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Kurt Warner to be their field general. The team is hoping that he can bring some of the magic he brought to St. Louis to the desert of Arizona. With the three talented receivers he’ll be throwing to it should make him feel like he’s right back at home in the confines of St. Louis.
The team also made some very good picks in the draft. With their first pick they grabbed Antrel Rolle, the talented cornerback from Miami. He’s an incredibly gifted player who can lock down wide outs and step up and make a big hit on a running back or tight end.
The Arizona defense should be much improved from last year. One of their draft picks Karlos Dansby will be leading a very fast linebacker core that will create havoc on opposing teams. Paired with the young, big, fast, and hungry defensive line that the Cardinals have and this should be a legit defense this season. Also, look out for strong safety Adrian Wilson. He’s got Pro Bowl written all over him this year and probably should have made it last season also.
Do the 2007-08Cardinals have the elements this season to be a playoff team? There are various problems stacked against them: a weak offensive line, and lack depth in key positions. On top of that, they have to get used to a new coaching staff. Good looking QB Matt Leinart seems more of a celeb than a player, but comes into the season with heaps of experience and improvement. He has great backup as well in Kurt Warner. As wide receiversAnquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are showing a lot of strength. They have also tried to amp up their OL, signing Mike Gandy and Al Johnson. Adrian Wilson is fantastic, and expected to start at other safety. Ticket buyers to Cardinals tickets will definitely see improvement this year. But Arizona as sleeper team remains to be seen.
After going 5-11 in 2006/07, the Cardinals fired head coach Dennis Green and brought in one time Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt who took the 07-08 team to 8-8. Coach Whisenhunt then set out to build his team to not only sell tickets but to get the franchise back to the ever elusive playoffs(six decades).
With coach Whisenhunt naming QB Matt Leinart as the starter going into the 2008 season but made the stipulation that Warner could indeed be made the starter. He was, on August 30th, in a season that saw him earn Player of the Week honors twice (weeks 9 & 11), pass for over 4,500 yards and finish with a completion percentage of almost 70%. Warner led his team to win the NFC West Division and only the 2nd playoff game at home in franchise history.
In the playoffs, the Cards went on to beat the Atlanta Falcons then the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Division Game. The Cardinals then hosted the NFC Championship game where they faced and defeated Donavan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles, earning the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Super Bowl XLIII
Matched the AFC Arizona Cardinals against the AFC Pittsburgh Steelers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. By halftime, the Steelers had jumped out to a 17-7 lead in which LB James Harrison returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, with his team down 20-7, QB Kurt Warner led his team to 16 unanswered point to take a small 23-17 lead with just over two and a half minutes left to play. Pittsburgh responded with a Ben Roethlisberger 78-yard TD strike to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds left in the game. Holmes would go on to win the Super Bowl MVP.
